As you all know, my kids are pretty young - the oldest is 6 - so I need to get some input from those of you whose kids are a bit older. At what point are these kids going to take responsibility for their own bathroom habits? Because this is how the days sound at our house now:
Morning: Did you go pee-pee yet?
When they are playing outside and try to drop their pants and go in the basement window well: NO! You have to go pee pee inside!!!
When they are talking to me and obviously holding themselves: Just go pee-pee and come back, ok?
When they are wiggling so much they can't even eat dinner: Please just go pee-pee and then you can come back and finish.
Before bed: Did you go pee-pee? Are you sure???
Also, does anyone want to weigh in on whether or not this is strictly a boy phenomenon? Not that it really matters to me, since boys are all I'm dealing with around here. I'd just like to know if/when there's a light at the end of the tunnel for me somewhere.
Thanks!

I can't remember this problem with all three! Maybe one of them here and there! I'm thinking your oldest in school will have a schedule soon with back to school. I do recall that I always had to remind mine before they left for sports, going to the store, anywhere to go first at home. I'd say--"go now because our bathroom is much better than what we'll find at the store". Or I say, "Go now because we are not going to the bathroom where we are going". I'm pretty blunt!
Hope you have a great weekend!! And midwife visit on Tues!!
I'm with Michele. My kids never really had this problem but my 6 year old and 9 year old still say they need to go about 5 minutes after we've left the house and I have to act exasperated and say 'well why didn't you go before we left'. The 9 year olds getting better though. One is a boy and one is a girl so I think its gender neutral. Sorry I couldn't be of much help :)
Oh my gosh! Nine years old and you still have to go five minutes after you leave the house??? :(
You guys seriously didn't have to tell them to go to the bathroom before going to bed??? What is wrong with us???
I think the biggest problem is that they don't want to interrupt whatever they're doing to go pee, and thus wait til the last minute. After my 6yr old grandson had several 'accidents' while playing with friends, he finally got the idea that he needs to pay attention,, because at this age the kids would make fun of him! Yes, with them at 3 and 6, we're all about did you pee, please pee before we leave, do you need to pee, why didn't you pee before we left, did you seriously pee on my rose bush, here's a wendy's cup to pee in, get your hands off that toilet seat!
